What I Loved: The design of the bag is great, pockets galore! The construction was simple and didn’t require much thought. An easy sew with great results.
What I Didn’t Love: I think the straps are just a smidge too wide. I’d love to see them a bit skinnier. Also, the pattern calls for using a canvas as a stabilizer….I wasn’t too sure I wanted to add the weight of the canvas (the bag requires quite a bit of fabric), so I opted to use fusible fleece on the interior and a lightweight interfacing on the exterior. Although I like the feel, I think the fusible fleece still added too much weight, and it did come out a bit thicker than I would have liked. Perhaps just a good interfacing would be fine. Maybe I’ll try the canvas next time…
Suggested Changes: Most of the patterns I’ve done by Amy Butler don’t include closures. I don’t know why she has an aversion to them. This bag is so large and has such a wide opening, I’d highly recommend putting a magnetic snap in. One other change I made was to only create 2 pockets (instead of 3) on one of the sides on the interior. I like different size pockets and I thought the smaller ones that were recommended were a bit too small.
Would I Recommend It? Absolutely!
