I know I’ve been a bit behind on my Scrappy projects…. I’ve been taking my “time off” from Scrappy Saturday to catch up on life and orders. I’ve been relaxing and I have to say that I feel like a new person! No more 4am wake-ups for me. I still get up at 5:30, but that is just so I can enjoy my coffee and web-surf in peace, before the family is in full swing.
Although I haven’t had any time to come up with my own tutorials, I did manage to find some time to make myself an adorable clutch following THIS tutorial by Noodlehead.
You only need some coordinating fabric scraps to make this and I am VERY happy with the outcome. There are a few improvements I’ve incorporated (described below), but if you are looking for a quick, easy and tasteful gift for the holidays this may fit the bill!
The tutorial is very easy to follow, however I recommend reading through all the directions BEFORE you begin as there were a few “oops” pictures where the image did not match up to the directions…you need to know where this happens to avoid mistakes.
As for modifications, I would recommend adding interfacing to the lining pieces as well as the outer pieces. I felt that they were too flimsy in the finished product without it. I also wasn’t crazy about how the card pockets were created. There were too many seams for my taste. I made a simple small square (two sided) and centered it on the lining instead.
I also added a 12″ strap so the clutch became a wristlet – I like having the strap for convenience.
TIP: Be sure the total length of your zipper is 8.5″ to achieve a perfect closure….any larger or smaller you may run into difficulties.
All in all, this is an adorable clutch and the divider is a nice option. I believe it took me about 35-40 minutes to make (including cutting/interfacing). Give it a try – you won’t be disappointed!
