This week has been somewhat of a whirlwind – and it’s not over yet! Since I posted a couple of items in my shop with embroidery and applique, the demand has made itself apparent. I have had a bunch of orders for personalized items and my new embroidery machine has been working hard. It’s kept me super busy. It has also given me an opportunity to update my imagery which has been on my ‘list’ for a very long time!
I am slowly improving my photography skills….It really makes a HUGE difference when selling online. Take a look at a couple of pictures I actually used in my shop when I first started out several years ago…..
YIKES! I can’t believe I posted pictures like this!
With a little imagination, better lighting and some practice – here are some photos that I just took…
BIG difference, right? A photograph says a lot. Sure, it takes some time to set up to get shots like these, but the end result is worth it, don’t you think?
The best part is that you don’t even need to invest a lot of money into equipment. A good point and shoot camera and the outdoors is really all you need for great shots.
Find a bush, a tree, a fence and use it for your backdrop. Don’t shoot in direct sunlight. Find a cool angle to make the shot interesting…..these are a few basics that will improve your photos drastically.
Indoor lighting can be a bit more tricky. I’ve invested in some studio lighting to help there, but my favorites shots are still outdoors.
Mommy’s Camera is a fantastic blog I came across recently through the Ultimate Blog Party. Jamie shares tons of advice for getting great photos with a point and shoot camera. I highly recommend checking it out.
So now that it’s getting warmer, go grab your camera, get outside and get creative!
