So….you have less than a week left before Mother’s Day…..If you haven’t thought about what to get Mom yet, or you just were planning to send the usual bouquet of flowers, read this first!
This past week I attended a Sewing Salon by A Happy Stitch to make an Infinity Scarf. I attended for a few reasons….One, it’s always nice to hang with a bunch of ladies who share the same interest as you and chat about sewing, life, books and tv shows. Two, a sewing salon is a great way to meet other people you wouldn’t otherwise run into. Three, sometimes it’s nice to just sew for fun (as opposed to work for those of you who sew for a living).
In this sewing salon we each made an infinity scarf based on THIS TUTORIAL by Anna Maria Horner.
This is an awesome tutorial. It’s quick, easy and super fun to sew. Best part is the final product is gift-worthy. SUPER for a Mother’s Day Gift!
I will warn you that it does require a lot of fabric. 2 yards for the front, and 2 yards for the back to get the length….but you can make 2 scarves from the 4 yards so you can make yourself one while your at it.
I choose to make my scarf using the fabrics suggested by Anna Maria Horner, velveteen and voile (pronounced “voil” for those of you interested). While this made a super lush scarf, if I were to make it again, I would use only voile or perhaps some silk so this would be better suited for the spring or summer. The velveteen makes this a bit heavier which works well for the winter.
My tips for this project are to pre-wash your fabrics AND pin, pin, pin. When sewing fabric of this length you will run into lots of trouble if you don’t use pins.
If making this scarf for a larger build, you may consider extending the length another 5 inches or so, especially if sticking with the heavier velveteen. And finally, you will want to take the time to hand sew the scarf closed. Machine sewing that last seam may prove quicker, but I promise you the hand sewing will look nicer.
Oh, and if you haven’t entered my pin & ruler giveaway yet – today is the LAST day!
