Well, we made it through. I have to say, that was the scariest storm I’ve ever been through. I give all of those who deal with these hurricanes more often a lot of credit. My nerves are just starting to recover.
During the storm we hunkered down in the middle floor of our house with the kids for the night and listened to the wind howl wildly and the trees sway like we’ve never known they could. We tried to drown out the horrific sounds of breaking branches, sizzling electric wires and fire pops of transformers blowing with the TV while we had power.
Around 7pm we lost our power and tried to play some games to keep our mind off the destruction that was happening around us. Thankfully, we made it through the storm pretty much unscathed. Although we woke up to something somewhat unbelievable.
This was the view out of our front door. What you can’t see is that this is a HUGE tree from across the street. It was a few feet shy of our house.
Here are a few pictures that show the entire story….
We took a walk around the block and saw more and more of this everywhere.
These neighbors were not so lucky…..
Unfortunately the damage Sandy dealt all of us in the Northeast will not be as easy of a recovery as my nerves.
I’m located in Central NJ, and far enough inland that the majority of damage we saw was from the wind. Those who live further south in the seaside towns have been devastated. It is so sad and words cannot describe the aftermath we are dealing with here in NJ, and all along the northeast coastline.
Currently we are among the millions of people without power. The loss of power is not that difficult to deal with, but the cold weather that has come in after this storm not as easy. This morning our house is at 50′. This is not pleasant! Thankfully we have a fireplace that keeps our living room tolerable during the evening. Clean up is happening though, and power is slowly being restored. We keep our fingers crossed and our outlook positive. We know that we will recover with time, and so will NJ and all the other affected states.
To all of my customers, thank you for your patience as my shop is currently closed and all orders are on hold until we restore power, order and sanity (not particularly in that order!)
