Whether for a school, church, charity or random event, at some point you will most likely be asked to contribute to a fund-raising bake sale.
I thought I’d share some tips on making your contribution easy, yet super pretty!
I made a bunch of cookies for my daughter’s school event. I was asked to contribute some sort of baked good in individual packages valued at $1.00.
TIP 1: Keep It Simple
Choose something simple, tasty and something that packages easily. You don’t want to spend hours slaving in the kitchen, but you do want to make something that people will WANT to eat. You also need to think about packaging….some items are much easier to package up than others (frosting can be difficult). Consider the weather too. Mid-day in the summer is not kind to chocolate!
I picked Lemon Crinkles because they will not melt, are quite easy to make, are somewhat unique (not just another chocolate chip cookie), and I wanted something that would appeal to both parents and kids.
TIP 2: Make it Pretty
You really don’t have to spend a fortune to package up your goods. Some cheap heavy duty cellophane, a ribbon and a pretty tag will make your package stand out! Simply bundle your cookies (or whatever) in individual servings, place in the center of a square of cellophane and tie with a pretty ribbon. Add a tag so people know what they are purchasing!
TIP 3: Label It
Aside from letting the customer know what they are purchasing, it is important to list ingredients. So many people have food allergies and will greatly appreciate knowing what went into the baked item.
You don’t have to purchase expensive tags either…you can make up your own tags using Word, Powerpoint or any illustration program. I used Photoshop to make mine. I placed 8 on a sheet and printed them out on a thick, colored card stock. If you want to go fancy, use a Corner Rounder Punch to round off the corners of your tags!
And that’s about it!
