I had a special request to make an owl backpack…
WHAT I LOVED:
The pattern was well written and easy to follow. There were plenty of pictures to demonstrate the steps.
WHAT I DIDN’T LOVE:
My only criticism of this pattern was the file size was HUGE! I have a decent computer and scrolling through this pdf was somewhat torturous – I’m not sure if the images weren’t compressed properly, but it was very frustrating to wait for the pictures to load and move between pages. If you have an older computer you may find this even more annoying….Of course you can always print it out, but I hate wasting paper!
The only modification I would recommend is to lengthen the straps by a few inches. I think this pattern was made for a toddler, although the bag itself is quite large. I made it for a 7yr old so I added a few inches and I’m so glad I did. Even better, if you can, take the time to make adjustable straps!
Remember that you don’t have to rely on the pattern for the belly. Have fun with it! I choose to make little feather flaps which added a unique aspect to my version of the bag.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PATTERN?
Yes!!! If you know an owl lover, this backpack is just adorable and sews up pretty quickly. The well-written instructions are wonderful and the images are helpful. As long as you are familiar with reading sewing instructions you can take this on! It is well worth the price of $8.50.
