First, let’s learn a little bit about Cotton Lawn. What is it? Cotton Lawn is a finely woven, soft fabric that is semi-transparent. It has a very moveable quality to it that makes it perfect for decorative scarves, blouses, skirts and dresses. It drapes very well and is ideal for showing off sewing details such as pleats and tucks! It gathers extremely well too.
Because it is so lightweight, you will need to adjust how you sew a bit in order to get the most from it…
Now, swap out your machine needle to a more delicate one that compliments that lighter thread. A top-stitch needle is ideal for this. I like to use a 70/10.
These small adaptions will help make your sewing with Cotton Lawn a more positive experience. If you haven’t tried Cotton Lawn, please do! You will not be disappointed. Oh, and if you are wondering about this dress, I will share the details about it in an upcoming post!
