My friend Melissa over at A Happy Stitch, who has been teaching sewing classes for years, has come up with a pretty awesome pattern. The bag is perfect for carrying around a laptop or some books and papers. It features an internal gussett pocket, a slim profile and can be custom fit.
I was lucky enough to be a tester for this pattern and I can tell you that it is extremely well written and has fantastic photos to aid any visual learner. The pattern is really perfect….
Of course, me, being me, I decided to make a few modifications to suit my preferences….
The pattern places the pockets on the inside, I moved those pockets to the outer front of the bag. The pocket is not visible with the flap down. Why did I do this? Well, for those of you who know me, it’s because I needed to put a zippered pocket on the interior. It’s just my “thing”!
I also replaced the webbing strap with an adjustable one. I’ll be honest, I did this mostly because I had been having massive writer’s block on what tutorial to offer next and this bag provided the inspiration I was desperately searching for! You can find that tutorial HERE.
And here is a fun fact…the exterior fabric I used was actually from an Ikea curtain I found in the clearance bin YEARS ago. I think this was the perfect use of it (and I still have lots left over!) The interior fabric is Full Moon Polkadot from Amy Butler – another fabric I have hoarded for years.
So, if you are in the mood to whip up this great bag, head on over to A Happy Stitch’s Etsy Shop. And you might want to stop by her blog to read about the pattern release and see some other folks renditions of this cool bag.
