Do you offer any type of “SAFE” wipeable fabrics?
Yes! As of October 2013, Sewplicity has added some baby-safe PUL options for high chair covers. The PUL Sewplicity uses has been tested and met or surpassed the CPSIA safety regulations set forth for children. Do take note that all PUL options have additional costs associated with them.
What is PUL?
PUL is a polyurethane laminated fabric that is waterproof yet breathable. Because of its leak proof properties, it makes for a great high chair cover! PUL offers a soft fabric on the exterior with the laminate side on the inside.
Can I wash my PUL cover?
Yes! Wash your PUL cover in warm water and use a mild detergent. Stay away from fabric softeners and/or bleach to prolong the cover’s life.
Regarding Vinyl, Oilcloth and other Wipeable Fabrics
Why don’t you offer your covers in Vinyl or Olicloth?
Vinyl and Oilcloth both contain chemicals called phthalates. These chemicals are used to soften plastics and can be harmful to children. The CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Act) has banned the use of phthalates in any children’s products.
Why have I seen other handmade sellers using vinyl and oilcloth in their children’s products?
Unfortunately many handmade sellers are either unaware of the potential dangers of these products, this law, or sadly choose to disregard them.
Where can I find out more about phthaltes?

Are laminated cottons safe?
Some laminated cottons are safe, however the current testing requirements for any type of treated fabric is currently too burdensome and expensive for a small manufacturer like myself.
